GutCheck Market Research Education

The Education section provides both helpful tips for when you conduct an interview, as well as provides a more in-depth look at some best practices for setting up a GutCheck chat interview with a member of your target market.

Top things to remember when doing an interview

  • Be social. Just like any other conversation, you will get a lot more information out of the respondent if you build rapport. Don’t pounce on them with questions right out of the gate. Warm them up some, and then get into the the business at hand.
  • Be focused. What is your key objective, and what three questions if they are answered will accomplish that objective.
  • Be patient. Just because the respondent isn’t typing doesn’t mean they aren’t coming up with some killer insights. Give them time.
  • Be realistic. Not every interview is going to be a great interview. Might be the respondent, might be you.
  • Be neutral. While it would be great if every respondent agreed with your idea, that isn’t why you are doing this. So don’t asked leading or biased questions.
  • Be flexible. Once you’ve done an interview, reflect on what went well and what didn’t and change things up (e.g., recruitment, guide, media) for the next one.
  • Be engaging. There is a reason we let you upload mega files. Show these respondents your cool work and get some great feedback.
